Mardi Gras is February 16th

Mardi Gras
(also known as Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday) is French for "Fat Tuesday" (ethnic English tradition, Shrove Tuesday).

Mardi Gras, the festival New Orleans, Louisiana, is famous for. "Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday.

The annual festivities start on January 6, the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, when the three kings are supposed to have visited the Christ Child, and build to a climax on Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, which always occurs on the day before Ash Wednesday. The parties and parades will continue until Lent begins at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday.

Mardi Gras is a legal holiday in New Orleans. It is scheduled to occur 46 days before Easter. Since the actual date Easter occurs on changes ever year, Mardi Gras can happen on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9.
This year Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras is February 16th.

This year, Ash Wednesday is Wednesday - February 17th.

SUNDAY BRUNCH ON VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day is the busiest night of the year for dinner in many restaurants, with even crazier reservations policies in effect. Skip this craziness, and enjoy a less expensive brunch at these Cambridge eateries, known for their Sunday Brunch.  Some feature Jazz music to enjoy:

1. Blue Room
1 Kendall Sq, Cambridge, 617-494-9034

The creative kitchen staff at ever-popular Blue Room rarely fails to impress. This is especially so on Sundays, when the restaurant puts on a buffet brunch that promises delights like Moroccan spiced chicken, octopus salad and Persian rice pudding. As to the setting, this atmospheric restaurant sports weathered brick walls, rough ceiling timbers and an open kitchen. Displays of original artwork, rotated seasonally, give the space further charm. Nice wine list.

2. Harvest
44 Brattle St, Harvard Square, Cambridge 617-868-2255

Award winning Harvest is highly regarded for its three-course Sunday brunch. This prix fixe affair tempts the palate with New England-inspired dishes such as Harvest eggs Benedict made with Maine crab meat and complements them with traditional brunch alternatives like steak and eggs, grilled salmon, seasonal quiches and corned beef hash. The dining room, with its open kitchen, warm earth tones, wood accents and comfortable banquettes, forever embraces patrons.

3. Henrietta's Table
1 Bennett St, Charles Hotel, Cambridge, 617-661-5005

This eclectic restaurant, located in the elegant Charles Hotel, emphasizes New England-inspired dishes, and the use of fresh local ingredients has become one of Henrietta's most enduring qualities. That said, their Sunday brunch buffets have garnered numerous awards over the years, thanks no doubt to the omelet, carving and grilled vegetable stations. Farmhouse-chic decor distinguishes the interior.

FLOWERS
